Weobley Castle - New Farm Home

As featured in the Grand Design magazine this simple but stunning property designed by Raum Architects is now complete. kPa Consulting Enineers were appointed to provide structural and civil engineering services for the project.

The original building on the site was a dilapidated barn which was demolished and site reprofiled. The site enjoys stunning views across the Loughor River and Whiteford.

From these humble beginnings a magnificent building has been created.

As an 'off grid' property a new foul and surface water drainage system was designed. Infiltration testing and a site investigation was carried out to determine the foundation design and more importantly infiltration characteristics of the site to position the soakaways and drainage fields. Due to the ecological sensitivity of the salt marshes an detailed environmental assessment was carried out.

The house is founded on a raft foundation on the bedrock, with a hand built timber frame superstructure. The design incorporates large open plan ground floor areas using metal web joists and steel beams, supporting the 2 bedrooms and bathrooms above.
