We love this cliff edge family home upside down house. kPa were appointed to provide a full engineering service, from site investigation to full superstructure design.
The challenge was to design a construction which could be built in most weathers and incorporate large glazed sea facing first floor openings, balconies, glazed central atrium, large overhanging roof and a cantilever drive under room. All this within 30m of the cliff edge to the Bristol Channel where winter wind speeds can reach 100mph.
The design incorporated Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) of Durisol blocks filled with concrete. This allowed us to reinforce key areas and provide holding down rods to keep the roof on. JP Construction successfully transformed this site demolishing the 50year old dormer bungalow and creating this family home of the future.
