This technical challenging building was all about deflections. kPa were appointed to provide a full engineering service to the client working alongside Raum Architects.
From this....... to this.
The upper storey to the front of the build is steel frame with timber roof and clad timber walls, supported on a composite reinforced concrete first floor slab in turn supported on ground floor load bearing masonry walls and strip footings. At the rear the single storey areas are constructed from masonry walls and cut timber roofing.

Deflection control was key to ensure the large roof canopy and frameless glazing performed well against high storm winds and weather. Modelling was carried out 3D using Tekla Structural Designer shown below.
The architects careful detailing shows this modest building to it maximum potential.
