kPa were asked to be the Structural Engineer for the BBC DIY big build in Swansea. A tear-jerking episode of DIY SOS saw the team transform a derelict site into a spectacular new purpose-built centre to help children in care.
The Big Build BBC Children in Need Special saw the team take on their biggest challenge to date. Viewers saw the team battle the elements and how a “Welsh army” came together to get the job done in just 11 days.
The building, which is The Roots Foundation Wales’ new home, proved to be a huge task the BBC team and their volunteer trades. Built from the ground-up, the property covers a huge 320 square metres and their biggest ever building was constructed in just 11 days.
kPa designed the piled raft foundation, surface water system including large attenuation tanks, land drainage and new foul water drainage system all in a week to meet the unprecedented programme to get the project done! Thanks go to our existing relationships with Welsh Water, Local Authority and local Piling Contractor Roger Bullivant who like us stepped forward to help the charitable cause for no charge.
