kPa are delighted to have carried out the structural engineering on Down to Earths latest build as recently featured on BBCs This is My Life (click for link). Down to Earth run programmes with various social groups through outdoor adventure activities and through the construction of ecological buildings and structures of various descriptions using traditional techniques and teamwork participation.
The build on a steep bank incorporates rammed earth foundations, timber pole sub and super structure frame with floors of site made I joists of larch and OSB. Walls are deep joist timber clad incorporating wool insulation and the roof is a turfed green roof. All timber is locally grown from sustainable forestry sites.
All materials are cut and machined on site.
The fourth eco build on the Murton site complements the sustainable facilities being provided to the groups that attend programmes through out the year.
